Minicase 8.5: The Dangers of Counterfeiting 1.
- To the other legal business, the Counterfeiting undermines the intellectual property rights and the
profitability of legitimate businesses. Legitimate manufactures devote significant resources to research
and development of products and building a reputation for quality among consumers. Counterfeiters, in
turn, seek too profit unfairly off of another company’s goods name. The lost sale and profits that result
from this unfair competition translate directly into lower wages and lost jobs, as well as higher price for consumers.
- To the consumer: it could be very dangerous to our health because counterfeit goods are often made using
cheap, substandard and dangerous components, especially fake toys or fake drugs. Besides, downloading
or streaming from illegal websites could put you at risk for malware – which can steal your personal or credit card information.
- To the economy: it creates a black market where consumer protection and taxation do not apply meaning
less money for your city’s school, hospital,… other social programs. 2. Measures:
- Watching services and market surveillance: rights holders should watch the register’s for new
application’s which could infringe on their own rights. This is usually done through watching services,
which filter out relevant fillings. These are notificed and analysed in order to decide whether action iss
required. Taken early on, such steps can act as a clear signal to potential infringers that rights that rights
holders are actively protecting their rights. This can serve a valuable deterrent.
- Safety features and closed chains of development: to make it eassier to recognise counterfeits, more and
more products are being fitted with safety features on either the packaging or the goods themselves. These
features – which canrange from the simple to the complex, depending on the value of the products
involved – are becoming increasingly common in the market.
- Custom measures: the principles of deterence and education also apply to successfully measures by
custom authorities and the police. Cooperating with Customs at every possible level is an economical and
powerful method of protecting IP rights. From the globally active World Customs Organization to
regionally active organisations such as the Europane Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual
Property Rights and its Enforcement Database (EDB) to national customs organisations, these are the
partners of rights holders in defending their interest.s -
Minicase 7.5 # Political risk in Russia
1. - Instead of operate by themselves, they should try to share responsibility with the company in the country. -
Foreign businesses might also form a joint venture company. - Another solution is voluntary localization.
2. The Russian economy is a market economy and globalized.
The Communist’s demand for making "nationalization" of private companies as priority has been no longer
suitable for the Russian economy.
In the past, when the Russian economy was still a commanding economy, the demand was to fully promote
the state's management of economic resources.
In the context of globalization, this policy will prevent the attraction of foreign investment and lose it selfregulating markets
Minicase 4.1 # Genetic science 1. - Positive
• Firstly, Save time and cost, skip unnecessary steps. lOMoAR cPSD| 59085392
• Secondly, it makes their work easier, increases work productivity because nearly all diseases will
be identified by simple clinical tests.
• Thirdly, increasing sales: the early detection of diseases will help the patients to orient themselves
to treatment, increase the demand for medicines, technology and medical services. - Negative:
• Sell them expensive services or drugs, the hospital presses high prices for patients.
• Need to always renew equipment, people and cures to catch up with the trend. This will be expensive and need to be patient. 2. - Positive:
Conditions for participation is that the insured must be healthy, not suffering from diseases covered
by the insurance exclusion list.
=> If you find out that the patient is sick, the company will not sell insurance, the cost to pay the patient is almost equal to 0. - Negative:
• If only the risk of disease without selling insurance, this makes revenue decline because the
number of people who do not meet the requirements increases.
• The insurance company must stand before a decision to change the conditions for participating in
insurance to respond to the sick or stop working because it does not gain profits.
• Besides, insurance companies combined with hospitals targeting healthy people to sell insurance will be more difficult.
Minicase 1.4 # China’s ageing population 1. - The needs of the old:
• A suitable environment to continue working
• Need someone to take care of, something to relax, to entertain • Need medical help
• For older people who can’t work, they need support from government’s policies - The needs of the Young:
• The policies create conditions to learn and develop.
• The supports of suitable environments to start-up. A stable career so as to have stable income.
• The family affection between generations 2. A. Impacts on Families
- When China adopts a 1-child policy, the responsibility of the young people then increases, they must be
responsible for their parents. When grandparents and parents lose their working capacity, it is certain that
the breadwinner will be the young. It is too hard for only one child who has to take care of 4 grandparents and 2 parents
- There are too many pressures that young generation have to face.
For example: Young people have to reduce their working time to look after older people b. Impacts on Government
• When people get older, their health become worse, therefore the demand of hospital increased which
impact on government’s budget a large amount.
• Community welfare also enhance when more and more people get older so government have to handle as well. lOMoAR cPSD| 59085392
• Pension crisis occurs when there are more pensioners, not to mention that today, lifespan of people are
longer so they can withdraw pension funds for longer.
• The increasing pension drives government to increase tax to pay for pension cost which put working
people under bigger pressure, especially young people. c. Impacts on Company
• The world in general and technology in particular are changing rapidly which means lack of young
labor is a disadvantage for the economy because older people are more likely conservative but the
young is more creative and they can easily reach the develop of technology.
• The proportion of labor force will drop and will affect organizations and economy as it will increase the labour prices.
• The domestic labor force will not attract foreign organizing companies due to high labour cots
• Moreover, nursing school is not totally develop and it is counted on the fingers, not satisfying a
number of old people all country. Minicase 3.1 1.
This report also lists quantitative factors that influence the level of happiness of the world's people.

While some services are over-emphasized, other services are overlooked. GDP mainly takes into account things
that are bought and sold. Non-market activities are completely "invisible". The most typical example is doing
housework. No one pays for things like cooking, moving, caring for children or older people in the family.
The reason given is that most of the above work is done by women and is often underestimated. In addition, it
is difficult to measure and calculate these jobs
Let's come back to the example of barber service in Beijing. We cannot know the exact price for each type of
head, so you need to focus on a certain pattern. You conclude that the average price of haircut in Beijing is
half the price of New York. But how do you know what you are comparing with? Do you compare based on
the service quality, the skill of the maker or the brightness of the hair color when completed? Do you miss
anything during the hair cutting process? When considering the performance of a nurse, should we compare
the number of patients they care for during the day or the quality of service they provide? Minicase 5.4 1.
Companes respond: offer more different services than Saga do Ex: - Health care service
- Open more yoga, aerobics for old people - Fashion for old people - Psychologic for old people
- Service cash management for older people
- Finance service for old people
2. Types of companies that specialize in technology, bulding,… Strategics:
- Develop type of business for many ages
- Give more benefit for external labor who have would qualifications
- Expand brand offices in other countries which have much younger labor - Taking care of old people more
Minicase 5.6 # The surveillance society lOMoAR cPSD| 59085392
1. As the society grows, smart applications become more and more popular, and in the future, all of your life’s
activities may be full control more and more gadgets are coming out, feature enhancement that help you as
well as the government do this.
2. First of all, all these oversight are aimed at a safer and more convenient society. Everyone’s awareness is
improved, people will be obey the law and live healthy. Crime rates as well as offenses will be significantly
reduced, and the authorities will be able to easily handle crimes and crimes control through recorded data.
Besides, if not careful, the bad guys can take advantage of the tracking device to carry out the crime. Minicase 7.6:
1. International political coperation reduce:
- Field emissions government have set a two years deadline to lay down rules for the implementation of the
Pans agreement to consider national program to keep global temperaturer below 2’ C.
- Investment in fossil fuel projects have decreased and a global campaign to persuade investor to withdraw
money from fossil fuel project has been laurched.
- Renewable energy is paid attention such as solar, called on government to implement policies to reduce
CO2 and respond to climate change effectively to set an example for companies and civil society. 2. Steps…
- The government should educate people especially teenagers about the importance of awareness of global warming on Earth
- Plant more tree on the mountains shills which could help to clean the environment
- The government and citizens should be encouraged to recycle bottles and cans because if the environment
is polluted it will effect the global warming
- Using public transport is also an effective solution to the issues which could help reduce fumes from private cars and motorcycles
- Government should enforce strict policies and regulation to control the emission of carbon gases from industries
- Move focus should be made on using alternative petroleum products that are environment friendly.
Industries that are certified green should be charged lower tax rate. Awareness programs should be organised to educated masses.
- Recently, the Maldiver has again boldly set out a new strategy against using tide: building floating islands.
Minicase 2.4 : # Asustek break laptop oligopoly
1. Because a netbook was considered as a low quality device with weaknesses in hardware, screen and
keyboard. Consumers were thought to be not interested because when people go to an electronics store
to buy a PC, they usually pick the most powerful but affordable one.
However, a netbook can still meet common tasks such as web surfing, checking emails or watching
videos. The low price of netbooks also makes them easier to reach more low- and middle-class consumers.
2. In our opinion, the approach of big PC firms is legal. Consumers have more choices because they can
buy cheap products from big brands such as Dell or HP. The entry of these companies into netbook
industry may harm the incumbent but Asustek has it owns advantages of a pioneer. When others tried
to attract consumers, it could invest in research and development of new products.
